Motivation is the fuel that lights our interior engines. Without it we can not do anything. We have to be motivated to do something, whether you are working from home, as a blogger or anywhere else, you need to be motivated to complete your tasks and goals.
I'm sharing here 5 of the most effective motivation boosters for people that work from home (including bloggers), but these 5 tips also do the trick for anyone that is working, no matter where that may be. Enjoy!
Motivation Booster No.1 - I have no idea what to do!
Have you ever said this? Of course you have. I said it myself a thousand times. And it doesn't feel good at all to be in this kind of state. But, there's an easy solution to this and that is plan your work from home day and your entire week.
When you know what you have to do, and how to exactly get it done, you won't feel overwhelmed (or at least, not that overwhelmed). Not having a detailed plan of action, which shows you what things you need to do this week and the order in which you should do them is like walking blind folded on a Formula 1 track in the middle of the race! It's suicide!
When I get to work, which in my case is working from home at this blog, I always have a clear description of the things I want to do that day and also, the entire week. I try to be as detailed as possible and prioritize everything.
For example, when I make my daily plan (which I usually do the prior night), I first write down all the things that I want to do the next day and then ask myself: "What is the most important thing for my blog, from this list?" Then, I put a big number 1 in front of that activity, and then ask myself the same question again and write number 2 and so on, until the list is organized by importance.
I do this for each day of the week, write all of these goals on a list or write it in a word document and print it out. Then I stick the list on the a board, on the wall in front of me (this way I can look at it any time I want to see what to do next or any time I feel a little overwhelmed or unmotivated).
Just the simple fact that you will have this list in front of you, will give you a "I know what to do" or "I'm in control of my life" feeling that is just priceless. Also, try to use at least an image on that list. This will also increase the chances that you look at the list often => which will lead to bigger chances of achieving your goals!
So, write a list, put one or more images on it, print it out and stick it in front of your eyes (so there's no way you won't see it), read it often throughout the day and do the things you wrote on it! It's simple, yet so powerful! It's the difference between having a map when you go to visit a completely new country and not having one. If you have a map, chances are that you will get exactly where you want to. If you don't have a map, you will lose a lot of time asking for directions and your trip will be ruined. So make a map!
Also important here: don't forget to prioritize the items on the list. If you don't do so, it like you have the map but don't know how to read it (you will often ask yourself, while looking at your list: "What should I do now? Should I do this or that?" and then, you will probably say: "Oh, I should have listened to that guy when he said to prioritize all my things and activities!" :) Prioritize them.
Motivation Booster No.2 - Are you starring your work?
Focus on what you are doing
Motivation comes from focusing on what you have to do. You can't expect to get good results on what you are doing if you constantly keep thinking of tonight's game or what Oprah will say on her show! If you do this, you are programing yourself for failure and you will never get your job done. Pay attention to what you have to do right now!
Concentrate only on what you are doing! If you get distracted, get back to work as soon as possible and try to not break the flow. Every time you feel distracted, try to remind yourself that you want to get this done as fast as possible and this is not helping!
Motivation Booster No.3 - Run from your work!
Sometimes, in order to get motivated to work, you have to take drastic measures, like running from your work! If you start to feel overwhelmed about what you have to do, and nothing can get you motivated to do it, you may want to think about "fleeing the scene of the crime". Sometimes the best way to do something is by not doing it at all (at least not for now).
Just get away from that office. Run as fast as you can and don't look back. Go and have lunch or just go for a walk and don't think about what you have to do. Relax, and only think of other things, things that you love to do. Breath the fresh air and stand tall. Don't hurry. Walk slowly and look at all the things around you. Feel the moment. Don't think. Just walk and look around. Do this for at least 10 minutes and then get back to work and finish that assignment.
Motivation Booster No.4 - "I see you!"
This is a line from the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, a movie I used recently to boost my motivation (you can read this article, and learn a great way to get motivated in under 50 minutes - that's how long it took me, but you can do it much faster- read it here) If you don't know the movie, in it there's an all seeing eye of fire that is searching for a powerful ring and whenever someone put on that ring, the eye can see it.
This exactly what you have to say whenever you feel down and only see the difficulties in your job. You have to look past those difficulties and see the great parts of what you are doing, the rewards that will come after you complete your task. Visualize those rewards and tell them: "I see you!"
Motivation Booster No.5 - I like this, and that, and that...this I don't like so much
Make a list of things you enjoy about your job
Ask yourself: "Why do I do this, every day?" If the answer is "For the money", then you are in big trouble. If you only work for money, it will be hard for you to get motivated. You have to expand your thinking and find new things that excites you about your work.
What seems to make you feel good about your job, except the money you get from it? Think about it. Write down the answer(s). If you can not absolutely find something else that money, maybe you should think about changing your work place and find something that you really like to do.
I love what I'm doing. I love to blog because it allows me to do the 2 things that I absolutely enjoy doing: write and help people. These aren't the only things that motivate me each day to keep blogging and writing stories (because I also write stories -- if you want, you can read The Prayer , one of my stories), but they are the most important ones.
These two things get my motivated whenever I get discouraged or overwhelmed and keep me on track. whenever I feel down and I ask myself "Why I'm a doing this?", I look on my board and the answers are there. It's because I love to help others achieve more and live a better life. And it's because I enjoy writing blog posts, stories, articles, even poetry sometimes (although I haven't wrote one in a while - I'll put that on my to do list right now :)
These are a couple of things that motivate me. But this is not all that important. What is important is what motivates you? What makes you feel great about what you do?

Hi,
The top thing that motivates me, other than money, is helping people. I work in a great office environment where I am an Administrative Assistant to about 30 people, which includes 5 managers.
When I help them figure out the answer to a problem, I see their faces light up. This is more of a reward than money itself.
Thanks,

I feel the same way, Richard! Whenever I help another human being in any way, I feel a strange positive and powerful energy around me. It's just amazing!
I embrace you,
